Telephone and Skype Counselling

with Relate Cambridge

What is telephone counselling?
Our Telephone Counselling service allows you to talk to a trained counsellor about any relationship issues. Telephone Counselling is just like having a face-to-face counselling session except you’re talking to a trained counsellor over the phone. It is delivered by trained and experienced Relate counsellors. It is a confidential and convenient service for those unable to access face-to-face counselling. It is most suitable only for individuals. You can arrange counselling sessions wherever is convenient for you.

What is Skype counselling?

This is counselling where you and your counsellor connect via Skype. Skype is a high quality video conferencing program that allows your counsellor to see and hear you using your computer and webcam (and headset if you choose) during the counselling session. This service gives you all the benefits of our face-to-face relationship counselling in a flexible and convenient format. It is fully interactive and completely confidential.

Skype can be easily downloaded from the internet or installed as an app. You can use Skype on your desktop computer or tablet with a built-in camera or external webcam. You will need a good connection, sound and picture for Skype to work at its best.

We will give you the Skype address of your counsellor when you book your appointment. This type of counselling is suitable for individuals and couples alike.

Who’s telephone or Skype counselling for?
Anyone, but of particular help to those who are: disabled, housebound; agoraphobic; have childcare or transport difficulties; living too far away from the Centre; working away from home – even abroad; on shifts; “too busy”; nervous of committing themselves or just wanting to talk to someone over the phone or via Skype in the comfort of their own home, rather than face-to-face.

Next steps
If you're not sure if Telephone or Skype Counselling is right for you, give us a call to find out more information on 01302 347866.

Getting ready for the appointment
Sessions are confidential, which means that you will need to make sure that no-one is in hearing distance of you. Please be aware of who else may be around at the time of the appointment.

You will need to ensure that:
• You are not disturbed for the duration of the appointment. It will last up to 50 minutes.
• You are in a suitable place to receive the call or make the Skype connection.
• You have the best quality for connection, preferably a land line rather than a mobile phone for telephone counselling.

Lost appointments
If you do not answer the call, or they cannot connect to Skype, the counsellor will continue to try for 15 minutes only.
A message may be left if it has been agreed it is okay to do so.
If after 20 minutes the session hasn’t started, the appointment will not go ahead.
If the appointment starts late it still has to finish on time.
If you change your mind about the appointment when the counsellor calls or you finish the appointment early you will not be entitled to a refund.

Rescheduling or cancellations
If you wish to reschedule or cancel a Telephone or Skype Counselling appointment you need to contact us 48 hours in advance of the appointment within working hours. Failure to do so will mean a £30 cancellation fee will be charged.
